Where Does Gassville Get its Name?
The town's unique name is credited to one of the area's early settlers. According to area historians, a post office was established in the town in 1878 with P. A. Cox as the postmaster. Mr. Cox was an incessant talker and was referred to by others as a "gasser" which eventually led to the town's name. To date, the town is the only Gassville in the United States. The town was formally incorporated in 1903. (information courtesy of The Encyclopedia of Arkansas History & Culture - www.EncyclopediaofArkansas.net)
